The Philippines is the 69th poorest country in the world. Between 41-60% live on less than $2/day. There are several provinces of the Philippines with extreme poverty. The poor typically have families of six or more members, with greater numbers of younger and older dependents. The head of household often only has an elementary education or less. The families often have no assets and minimal access to electricity, clean water sources, health and education services. They are often the most vulnerable to financial shocks and natural disasters.
We will partner with the local body of Christ to rebuild and restore lives in areas that have been affected by disaster and poverty. We will be partnering with Randy and Hanna Dolhanyk, members of TFH and their ministry Hope is a Gift. Their mission is to provide HOPE and dignity to all people in need through clean water projects, sustainable food, and ending poverty. While there, we will be part of outreaches and evangelizing at village churches, jails, and communities. We will do graffiti abatement and Adopt-a-Block, reaching families in need.
We believe when people engage in service, it leads to life change. Our short-term trips provide opportunities for people to serve together in various locations around the world. Our belief is that as people chose to serve, whether in one of our churches, in the local community, or around the world, the impact of that service will change lives—for those serving, for the people they serve, and even for those that see them choosing to give their time to help someone else.
For those of you who have not gotten involved, we hope this will be the year you choose to begin a lifestyle of service. And to those who are serving, we just want to say thank you. You are the reason the mission is being accomplished.
